LAS VEGAS MAGIC TICKETS!
are what we are all about!
Criss Angel
Has his television show gone too far?
Criss
Angel is the newest Magician to land on the Las Vegas
Strip and he
didn't land there by accident, a lot of work went behind getting him on
top, but did he do too much work? Is his television persona too great
to follow with a live show? Let's admit it, he floated above the Luxor
Hotel, escaped death from a steamroller, walked on water, etc.
After
the plethora of illusions done on television by Criss Angel one would
think his live show would be Fantastic! With such an arsenal of tricks
at his disposal how could Angel receive bad reviews? and then add to
the mix that he has a cast from Cirque du Soleil at his side, this show
should be the very best in Vegas shouldn't it? Then how are so many
reviews coming out negatve?
Angel has a look and
feel that I call "Grunge". The costume with chains hanging and
sometimes an oversized necklace
with the black fingernail paint, this adds a certain image and while I
wouldn't be caught dead wearing any piece of his "Grunge" attire, I
think he has created a niche that is solely and uniquely his own, the
image is working because other Magicians are copying and immitating,
and that is great! I congratulate him on his originality and his mix of
some of the illusions that he has created (and some of them are really
excellent illusions!) and poof! you have a
Superstar Magician!
So
he has the image and the talent but on television he may have went too
far with some of the illusions. If you see a Magician on television do
a certain trick, you expect to see that trick or at least some
of the incredible feats in his live show. But, some of his illusions
may have went too far. Through the use of stand-ins and trick
photography has he went too far with his television illusions? I think
so. To watch the tricks he has done on television, one knows that he
can't re-create them live. But the average Joe Smith expects him to be
just as mesmorizing live, as he is on television, but we all know he
cannot duplicate a majority of these feats....
will the live show be a let down? I think so.
Copperfield
and the others have for the most part performed illusions that they
could re-create in a live show and this helps them.
People first see
the trick on the television and then their memory is reinforced by
seeing it live and they talk about how spectacular it is to see "So and
So trick" live. But in the Criss Angel show I don't think that is going
to happen.
Let's just get down to the point.......If you can't
do the trick in your live show, should you do it at all? If it is a one
time thing I say no problem, but if you continuously do illusion after
illusion that is physically impossible to perform live, your live stage
show may suffer.
The audience will in some cases be let down.
Criss Angel has a ton of die-hard fans and they will keep his show open
and running. I just wonder how many of the average Joe
Smith's
will recommend or come back to see him a second time.

Is this the "Worlds Greatest Magic Trick
Ever" I think so!
Hans Moretti's "The Box"
has to be the single most dynamic illusion in the
World of Magic today!
It is absolutely astounding and I would
defy anyone to figure how it is done.
The creator of the Box, European Hans
Moretti, took 3 years to perfect this, and only he has the
secret. The concept is this:
A
very large cardboard box, placed on a table, with balloons inside is
shown, and the balloons are released. Moretti is then securely
handcuffed, and completely wrapped in chains by his assistant (wife).
he then climbs inside the huge container, which is then strapped shut.
Two audience volunteers are brought to the stage, and proceed to insert
swords randomly and completely through the cardboard container. At the
top of the Box Moretti's hand appears, wielding a feather duster. More
swords are inserted. Moretti's wife (assistant) pushes a red silk
through a hole in the Box, proving he's indeed in there.
After
all of the 16 counted swords are removed, the audience watches as a
chicken appears at the top of the Box. Thunderous applause begins, as
Moretti emerges from the Box in full clown costume, complete with
make-up and a red nose. The audience is now on its feet, applauding as
Moretti is now ringing bells, making silks appear, along with an
assortment of animals.
Remember, the Box is shown empty after the
release of the balloons. This deserves the standing ovation it
received, as Hans Moretti alone devised the absolute Miracle of Magic!
He is truly a first rate Magician!

Magic Shows and Magicians

Isn't
it amazing that
Vegas has all of these wonderful
Magic Shows and the one name not on
the list is
DAVID
BLAINE!! So many of the Magic Tricks that he performs
are filled with sleight of hand methods for close up shows and
smaller crowds. Could this be the reason that we have never seen him in
Las Vegas? Has he ever performed in Las Vegas? I can't remember ever
seeing or hearing about him performing in Las Vegas but wouldn't it be
a spectacle. With his sleight of hand and his very unique way of
performing I am sure that one of the hotels could find a place for him,
besides he could hang over the Las Vegas Strip in a clear box for 120
hours and draw attention to his new show
........this is of course a
joke, but it really would be something to see him put together a show
for Las Vegas and star in it nightly,,,,,I would be buying a ticket to
his show also! His website shows no sign of any Las Vegas appearance
but we'll keep a steady watch on this and report back to you! and while
we are here talking about Magicians who are not showing in Las Vegas,
has anyone seen the likes of Darren Romeo lately? Several years ago he
was playing in the Mirage at the same theater where Siegried and Roy
were playing and now I can't find info on any places that he is
playing..... (anywhere) Darren had an act that I also one day wanted to
witness, considering that Siegfried and Roy was backing him and doing
the advertising for his act. The other name that is missing from the
list is Jeff McBride! Witness the Magic and the Card Manipulations of
Jeff McBride on the Masters of Illusions television show that was
running every Monday but currently is not running,
but we all wish it
would reappear!

Masters of Illusion
Magicians
and non Magicians alike were treated to last season's televised
cornucopia of the best illusionists in the universe. the gamut ran from
sophisticated stage performances by Dale Salwak to the slapstick of Ed
Alonzo.
Japanese conjurers My Wynn gracefully presented her Lota
Bowls, the Zombie and the piercing Sword in Box. Counterpart Ai and
Yuki did a mesmerizing Linking Ring specialty.
Magicians who
performed "In The Street" miracles with cards, coins and other close-up
material included Adam Wylie, Krystyn Lambert, Wayne phelps, Kevin
Viner, Chase Curtis, Rmay among others. The amusing and skillful Levent
performed his craft with abundant enthusiasm, energy, and mayhem.
routines
involving clothes were brilliantly performed by quick-change artists
Danny Cole, Chase Curtis and the brilliant Husband and Wife team David
and Dania. Their spectacular quick-change artistry was also featured on
Oprah Winfrey show.
Rick Merrill amazed the audience with his
masterful conjuring with a magic marker and coin, making each appear
and vanish with mind blowing dexterity and timing.
My own
personal favorite Magician was Dale Salwak, whose style reminds me of a
Magical Fred Astaire. he was suave sophisticated, cool, and quite
elegant. Mr. Salwak teaches Magic courses at the Chavez School of Magic
in Los Angeles.
Masters of Illusion was produced by Gay
Blackstone, widow of legendary Harry Blackstone Jr. It is most
fervently hoped that another season will be produced soon so please set
your VCR machine or DVD player and record this should it reappear. More
Magical mayhem and foolishness is ours to enjoy by such masters as
lance Burton, Michael Finney, Joseph Gabriel, Kyle Eshcen and more

"Mr. Ed, The Shishkabob"
The
World Acclaimed Harry Blackstone, Sr. mad a magical appearance on a
classic Mr. Ed (Talking Horse) TV show in the early 1960's.
The
legendary Magic Icon was the father of Harry Blackstone, Jr., and the
most revered Magician of his time! In this classic episode, he appeared
as the headliner in a local Magic Show. Resplendent in a tuxedo, he
appeared onstage with a bird cage in his hands, which he vanished,
caged bird and all. Blackstone then invited four audience members on
the stage to inspect him to see where the bird and the cage went. His
back to the audience, Blackstone then faced the audience, the elusive
birdcage (with bird intact) reappeared in his hands.
Each of the
four audience volunteers then placed a hand on each side of the cage,
with a magical gesture, the birdcage vanished again, to thunderous
well-deserved applause. More Magicians followed, one performing a
brilliant "Ring on Rope" routine, and another with a startling "Cups and
Balls" routine finally making 3 large balls appear one under each cup.
Those familiar with the concept of Mr. Ed, the talking Palomino, will
appreciate this episode, as his owner Wilbur Post plans to use Ed in
the Magic Show. The idea here is to place Mr. Ed in a large empty box,
and Wilbur to "Shishkabob" Ed with spears inserted through the
container. Through a most cleverly devised plot line, and absolutely
hilarious slapstick, Mr. Ed appears in the box wearing a woman's hat
and a purse in his teeth. This black and white 1960's episode is a true
Magician's dream, with the special appearance of Harry Blackstone, Sr.,
and the other amazing Magicians, this indeed is special Magic.
